Long before bright arenas and perfect ice, there was pond hockey—rough, uneven, and absolutely unforgettable.

In “On Frozen Ponds,” the game is already over. A lone net sinks into a crust of snow, lines from blades etched into the ice like handwriting. The low winter sun stretches the net’s shadow across the pond, pulling out that familiar feeling: tired legs, frozen fingers, and not wanting to go inside just yet.

This piece isn’t about the winning goal. It’s about the rink you shoveled yourself, the friends who never wore matching gear, and the kind of winter silence that only happens on an outdoor sheet of ice. Hang it where you want a quiet reminder of the simple, unpolished version of the game.
